Assignment for Monday, March 18, 2013
Good morning, sixth hour students!
I didn't plan to be absent today, but unfortunately I am out with strep throat until tomorrow. Please be on your best behavior and represent Lee High School well. I can't wait to be back with you tomorrow -- and to meet any new students! See you then! ~Mrs. Britten~
TODAY'S ASSIGNMENT
Our first unit in English 11C will be on the beginning of the Modernist period of American Literature. In English 11C, we'll be reading several short stories and a novel -- F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, a story that focuses on the decline of the American dream amidst the glittering upper-class lifestyle of the wild and crazy Roaring '20s.
Today, you will be watching a documentary called "The Century: America's Time - 1920-1929 Boom to Bust." It was produced in 2012 (only one year ago). I think you'll enjoy it, as you can easily compare and contrast the world we live in with the lifestyle of people who lived in the U.S. almost 100 years ago. The documentary is located at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJlgil_38hU
My students: You can watch this documentary on your own or with a classmate. Use headphones or share earbuds with your classmate as you watch.
AS YOU WATCH... Create a quiz -- with answers! -- for yourself about the documentary. Write your questions and answers on lined paper. The lined paper is located in the closet next to the pencil sharpener (second shelf down from the top).
REQUIREMENTS... You may do these in any order AND/OR mix them up.
1. The quiz must have 5 questions that begin with "What..." or "Who..."
2. The quiz must have 5 questions that begin with "Why..."
3. The quiz must have 3 questions that begin with "Describe..."
4. The quiz must have 1 question that requires you to compare and contrast using a Venn Diagram.
5. The quiz must have 1 question that requires a short answer of 3 sentences or more.
When is this due...? Please hand in your work to the sub by the end of class today. I expect that each student will have at least 10 questions and answers completed by the end of class. You will have additional time to finish the remaining 5 on Tuesday.
TECHNOLOGY ISSUES: Please talk to the sub if you are having technology issues. S/he will tell you what to do next. Do not just choose to skip the assignment and "do your own thing", expecting that I will excuse you tomorrow -- see the sub for additional instructions. This is a requirement if you have any problems. Thank you! :)
